For a second, I think I’ve gone mad.

Real people don’t talk like that. That absolutely…that coldly.

I turn to Simon. His stunning face is set in expressionless lines. But then I see the pale blue chips of his eyes. They are expressionless too. And I’m scared. It only happens when he’s incredibly enraged.

Jeremy tugs at my hand again.

Simon’s flat gaze glides down to where my ex is holding me. And I discreetly try to untangle from him. It’s weird…Jeremy’s taller than Simon by two inches. He is built like the high school quarterback he was. And his golden god looks are objectively attractive.

He is more than a match for Simon in the strength department but…

A breathless sigh escapes me.

Simon’s matchless. Power radiates off him, even if he is less polished and put together than Jeremy. Since I tucked his bowtie away.

“Jeremy, come with me.” I turn my wrist and escape his hold.

I want to feel something, even disgust, at Jeremy’s touch. There’s just emptiness. Nothing. Not even a ghost of a feeling exists, positive or negative.

How did I spend eight years with Jeremy Tavistock pretending I was alive?

The realization scares me more than Simon’s unnecessary, Neanderthal rage.

Simon puts a hand an inch above my ass, possessive and alpha in the extreme. Stupidly hot. Stupidly alive.

I’m extremely conscious of everyone’s eyes on the three of us. My ex-fiancé, and my high school boyfriend who’s now my husband, and me. Oh my god. My life is a K-drama!

“Simon, please. Don’t make a scene here.”

He smiles but it might as well be a grimace. “Who said anything about a scene, moonshine?”

“Ophelia.” Jeremy is wild-eyed as he watches the byplay. To an onlooker, we are a couple, having a private moment. Even if one of us is ready to commit homicide any second if someone looks at him wrong.

“I don’t like how you’re looking at her, Tavistock.” Simon holds out his hand. “Eyes down. Okay?”

I resist rolling mine at his arrogant tone.

He is really getting off on all this power display, isn’t he? All of the elite townspeople are gathered in one roof. And he is the one they all can’t stop looking at. Simon is not the scandal anymore. Oh no, he’s far worse. He’s the legend they don’t dare question.

I’d feel for him if he didn’t drag me into the spotlight with him. He absolutely deserves to fuck every one of these people up, for how they treated him and his family. But he could do it by himself, without my help.

Jeremy’s well-shaped lips tighten. He looks at the waiter and grabs a glass of something amber.

Oh great, that’s just what I need. Alcohol.

I go to get mine, but Simon stops me. “Eat something first,” he suggests quietly. “Then drink. I want you loose, but on a full stomach.”

The nerve of the man. First my dress, then this. Who does he think he is?

His eyes glitter hectically. Oh yeah, he knows exactly who he is.

“Can I talk to Jeremy alone?” I grit out.
